Task Description/Responsibilities:

The Unix System Administrator will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of UNIX equipment and monitoring/resolving problems in a world-wide network of SUN servers headquartered at the Pentagon. Handle customer service calls & enter information into a Remedy Trouble Ticket System. Assist customers in resolving client hardware/software/operational issues. Participate in installation of new software baselines. Ensure compatibility of installed software & hardware baselines. Resolve noted system incompatibilities & inconsistencies. Troubleshoot software/hardware problems, identify, implement, & document system fixes, maintain awareness of and participate in planning of upgrades.

 

Education:

·         An AA Degree, or equivalent

·         A High School Diploma or GED, plus 4 additional years of related technical experience will substitute for the AA Degree

 

Experience:

·         Minimum 3 years of UNIX System Administrator experience on Solaris 9 or Solaris 10 including Solstice Disk Suite and SunMC.

·         Must have demonstrated UNIX, Solaris 9, Solstice Disk Suite experience.

·         Must have experience with RAID Systems and tape backup systems

 

Specific Experience Requirements:

·         Required (Essential Skills Exp):

Experience with Solstice Disk Suite (mirrors, metadevices, etc.) required

·         The following knowledge and experience is highly desirable:

·         TCP/IP, AppleTalk & Ethernet network protocols a plus

 

Special Requirements

·         Successful candidates will be willing and able to explain system architecture, problem causes, results and solutions to junior co-workers.

·         Successful candidates will be able to write clear, concise problem descriptions and their solutions using Remedy Trouble Ticket System.

·         Successful candidates will be willing to support a 6 AM to 6 PM work schedule if required.

·         Successful candidates will be able to communicate in English, both orally and in writing

 

Security Clearance:

·         Current TS/SCI Security Clearance required.
