Administrator II (Unix) (Field Support) Position Number: SSTI-IS-002-

Task Description/Responsibilities: Systems
Administrator will be responsible for a combination of installing both software
and hardware, maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting, modifying, fabricating,
and testing electronic equipment and systems of end users in the field. Apply
practical knowledge and principles, isolate malfunctions using established
tools and techniques, perform preventive and corrective maintenance on the
equipment identified in the system baseline documentation, and return faulty
equipment to operating condition. Will work independently on various types of
equipment and related devices and be able to resolve problems which are
moderate in scope and complexity. Candidates
must have the ability to coordinate and perform system hardware & software installations
and upgrades. Candidates must be able and willing to travel extensively across
the US and internationally, which may include hazardous duty locations, in the
performance of their duties and responsibilities. Participate in
the installation of new software baselines. Ensure compatibility of the
installed software & hardware baselines. Resolve noted system
incompatibilities & inconsistencies. Troubleshoot software &
hardware problems, and identify, implement, & document system fixes.
Maintain awareness of and participate in planning of upgrades. Successful
candidate will be willing and able to explain system architecture, problem
causes, results and solutions to junior co-workers. Education: □
A Bachelors Degree in a related technical field, or □
A High School Diploma or GED, plus 4 additional years of
related technical experience may be substituted for the Bachelors Degree □
An AA Degree (in a related Technical Discipline), plus 3 additional years of related technical
experience may be substituted for the Bachelors Degree Experience: □
Minimum
3 years of SUN and Macintosh computer and other hardware installation,
configuration and maintenance □
3
years practical trouble shooting experience □
3
years LAN/WAN installation,
configuration and maintenance □
Ability to lift 50 pounds for the floor to a desk or
table top □
Candidates with these desired skills will be given
preferential consideration: * VoIP, UNIX, TCP/IP LAN/WAN, VTCoIP, TACLANE and
KIV's knowledge Specific Experience
Requirements: q Required
(Essential Skills Exp): o
Knowledge
of Macintosh clients and the ability to assist customers in resolving client
hardware/software/operational issues is a plus. o
Demonstrated
UNIX, Solaris 9, Solstice Disk Suite experience. Experience with RAID Systems
and tape backup systems a plus o
Knowledge
of TCP/IP, AppleTalk & Ethernet network protocols a plus. o
Ability
to write clear, concise problem descriptions and their solutions using Remedy
Trouble Ticket System. o
Must be able to communicate in English, both orally and in writing. Security Clearance: q Current TS/SCI
